Pandemic aside, the boxing scene has been in rude health for a few years now, and with a fight expected between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury in 2021 to unify the major world heavyweight titles, interest in the sport is only likely to increase. Starting out under the name Knockout Kings, EA’s Fight Night series had risen up to the challenge of its rivals, beating off opposition for the likes of Ready 2 Rumble, Prince Naseem Boxing and even a few Rocky-branded titles. 2011’s Fight Night Champion was the pinnacle, cementing the series’ dominance of the boxing game market. However, this would prove to be the last Fight Night release.

This may be just be an example of a great champion bowing out on top of their game and undefeated, but this has proved little consolation to fight fans. Joshua and Fury were added as playable fighters in UFC4 to great interest, giving players a teaser of what could be done in an EA-powered combat game. Hope for the series was further dashed in the summer of 2020 with boxing promoter Eddie Hearn revealing EA were unenthusiastic about reviving their own boxing game, given their commitments to the UFC series.
