10 Most Mourned Sports Video Games Franchises

3. SSX

Downhill madness here from the EA Sports BIG crew again, 2000’s original SSX spawned another 4 sequels, focusing on various aspects of snowboarding, including races and freestyle trick competitions. Much like the Mat Hoffman series, SSX fought off a huge array of competition in a short period of time, including Cool Boarders, Amped and Shaun Palmer’s games. Unfortunately 2012’s SSX remains the most recent release in the series and still the most complete snowboarding game of all time.

A format that is perhaps a little too lineal to appeal as a full-price current generation console game, without some serious re-imagination, the SSX series is nonetheless highly missed. Toeing the line between fantasy and reality, the games featured a pleasingly realistic, weighted feeling to the boarders themselves whilst also incorporating physics-defying moments of insanity. A remaster of SSX Tricky was hinted at by producer Steven Rechtschaffner in early 2020, but seems to have fallen by the wayside in a difficult year.
