8. Sniper Elite 4

Though Sniper Elite has always had a substantial army of loyal fans perfecting their bullet-trajectories and laughing at explosive gonads, it's not until this fourth instalment that I feel Rebellion has nailed the best sensation of gameplay yet.

It's a perfect blend of Metal Gear Solid V-esque explore n' experiment ethos, with the aforementioned - and optional - hardcore elements of considering wind resistance, bullet drop and the angle to your target. SE4 lets you leap right into a mission and just have fun keeping the A.I. on their toes with tripwires and legshots - or you can be a phantom in the night, covering your blasts with environmental cues and decimating the opposition as they routinely scream "WHERE IS HE?!"

Both are brilliant fun, and if you've found this generation lacking in solid third-person shooters or stealth titles, Sniper Elite 4 has both boxes ticked.
