10 Most Overrated Video Games Of The Past Decade
6. Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor
Back in 2014, exceptional video games were few and far between. As such, it seemed like critics were willing to throw acclaim at the first noteworthy thing they got their hands on. Enter Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor.
Shadow of Mordor was a good mixture of Assassin's Creed and the Batman series, with its free-running movement, and counter-based gameplay. What made it unique however, beyond the Tolkien universe, was the Nemesis System. This mechanic made each random orc battle in the world feel meaningful.
That said, the novelty of it wore off pretty quick as you started to see the strings. Then you were left with the empty, brown world, and the phoned-in story.
A by-the-numbers protagonist, a shockingly dull open world, a completely forgettable plot - apparently all of that was irrelevant when you have the mildly impressive Nemesis system. Somehow, its sequel was so much worse, but the less said about that the better.
