10 Most Overrated Video Games Of The Past Decade
3. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Metal Gear Solid V may have been a decent video game, but it was a terrible Metal Gear Solid game. Really, it was only a Metal Gear game in name alone; every element that made the series great was stripped out.
The opening scene in The Phantom Pain is pure Metal Gear bliss! It's bat-$hit crazy and very memorable. After that scene though, you're thrown into several hub worlds that are completely unnecessary.
There's no reason for the game to have these open hub worlds, as you get plopped down and just travel to the actual destination. As if that weren't mundane enough, much of the game is made-up of repeating the same missions to get better gear and build-up your base.
Then there's the story. If you felt like the ending was rushed, that's because the game is literally unfinished. The game was always intended to have one last chapter (51), as evidenced by the collector's edition. So the story of Phantom Pain is an incomplete experience, yet it sits at 93% on Metacritic.
That's just madness, and not the good Kojima kind.
