10 Most Sacrilegious Video Game Moments
2. Pick A Colour, Any Colour - Mass Effect 3
For its first two installments, Mass Effect was respected as one of the deepest and most artistically accomplished AAA video game franchises of the 21st century.
But all the plaudits and glory were promptly jettisoned into orbit with the release of Mass Effect 3, a game which BioWare promised would pay off a trilogy's worth of storytelling choices and character building.
As it turned out, rather than offer up the granular, hyper-adaptive ending fans were led to expect, Mass Effect 3's climax boiled down to a choice of three colours for each of the game's prescribed ending sequences.
Fans were upset enough to vocally express their outrage at BioWare and even consider the legality of being misled so egregiously, resulting in the developer eventually releasing an Extended Cut DLC ending, which was still met with ire from many quarters of the fanbase.
This is arguably the moment which killed the series' goodwill with fans forever, given that the follow-up, Mass Effect: Andromeda, was both a critical and commercial disappointment.
