4. General Shepherd - Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
If a shepherd’s job is to lead his flock, then Modern Warfare 2’s Shepherd lead his right off the edge of a cliff. This was a game, nay, a series that instilled in its players a belief that the Russians, the Germans and Middle Easterners were not to be trusted, at least within the confines of a Call of Duty campaign.
But it was all a ruse. The true mastermind behind MW2’s evildoings was General Shepherd himself. Not only was he American (gasp!), but he was also the very man who had assigned the likes of Roach and Soap to Task Force 141 in the first place.
It was a fairly daft twist – that the man who had been claiming to fight terrorism was actually perpetrating it in order to increase military funding and conscription – but it was damned effective in the moment.
It wasn’t even what Shepherd did that hurt us so badly, it was how he did it. Arriving to extract Roach and Ghost in a helicopter, the General appeared like a saviour descending from the sky.
Only, he was the very worst saviour, and would end up shooting both Roach and Ghost, before burning their bodies while they were still alive.
Flock this guy.
