10 Most Shocking Gaming Betrayals

3. Bastila - Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic

Bastila is one of very few video game characters who technically betrayed the player twice.

Her first betrayal is one of misinformation. For the duration of Knights of the Old Republic, she neglects to mention that you are in fact the former Sith Lord Revan, and that you have been rendered memory-less after losing a battle with Bastila and her Jedi cohorts.

The second is perhaps even more brazen, but arguably less Batila’s fault. After staying behind on the Leviathan to battle Darth Malak, Bastila is captured and put through a gauntlet of Dark Side torture methods. Eventually, she succumbs, submitting to Malak and becoming his apprentice.

As a result, she begins using her rare battle meditation ability to improve the focus and skills of the Sith fighter pilots fending off the Republic around the Star Forge.

The player boards the Star Forge, only to find Bastila decked out in black robes, with her previously condescending attitude turned up to a Dark Side eleven. It’s even more shocking if the player had previously been romancing Bastila, although she can either be talked down or joined once beaten in a duel, depending on your Force alignment.
