5. Crimson Head (Resident Evil - Remake)

The Resident Evil remake was a shining example of how to re-interpret a classic video game and in a lot of ways actually improve upon it, especially given that it would be very easy for the scares to feel wholly predictable, as we've all played through it before. Throwing Crimson Heads into the mix, then, was a hugely inspired idea, a shocking moment the first time you encounter them, and one which in of itself will keep players on edge for most of the game. When you kill a zombie in this game, you're implored to set it alight to ensure that it can't return, because if you don't, often they will rise up once again, blood seeping through their skin - hence the name - and filled with rage. You'll kick yourself whenever you encounter one, because they take a lot of ammo to put down - which in a game like this, is always an annoying thing - and most horrifyingly, they also have the ability to break through doors and doggedly pursue you, which eschewed the series convention that passing through a door meant you were safe (aside from in our next entry, anyway).
