One of the many games to ruffle the feathers of reactionary news outlets, Punisher's introduction of a 'torture mechanic' that mapped Frank Castle's various physical animations to the right analogue stick was soon blown out of proportion.

In the end, THQ were forced to yield under immense pressure, releasing their game with both a black and white filter that kicked in whenever you attempted to finish anyone off, and an awkward 'quick zoom' to Castle's face to avoid those lingering shots.

PC modders quickly found out how to get past that, and within the first week of sale - or beforehand, if you had access to the demo - Frank was butchering foes with table drills, chroming machines and wood chippers.
