10 Most Under-Appreciated Video Games In MAJOR Franchises
2. God Of War: Ghost Of Sparta
After the success of God of War: Chains of Olympus on the PSP, Ready at Dawn released a follow-up called GoW: Ghost of Sparta.
Naturally, this instalment has everything fans have come to expect from the series - epic cutscenes, creative puzzles, sharp combat, challenging bosses, and a fair amount of deity killing. (There's also the mandatory sex mini-game.)
Although Chains of Olympus is technically superior, Ghost of Sparta leaves a bigger impression, since it focuses far more on fleshing out Kratos. After learning more about our antihero's childhood, his family, and his twin brother, players saw a more human side to the demi-god. Considering how entertainingly gruesome the battles get, it's impressive Ready at Dawn crafted a God of War sequel where the players care more about Kratos' past than mauling screen-filling monsters to a pulp.
Because the series seemingly wrapped with GoW3 a few months prior, Ghost of Sparta felt like an unnecessary instalment. But not only did it prove to be an excellent entry, it expanded on Kratos' origins and the lore of the Greek pantheon, strengthening the overarching narrative as whole.
