10 Movie Video Games That Were EPIC Fails
1. Enter The Matrix (2003)
The Matrix was the 1999 sci-fi blockbuster that made sci-fi great again. Enter the Matrix was the critical failure of a video game released alongside 2003's The Matrix Reloaded.
The Wachowskis made no secret of the fact they wanted a mega-franchise after the success of the first film. Movie-goers were told that books, comics, anime, animation plus video games, (including an MMO), would be developed along with the films. With Enter the Matrix, the audience were promised adventure that delved so deep into the Matrix that we'd see scenes exclusive to the game.
In reality, this was partly true - for roughly 45 minutes. Gamers were given a choppy action game featuring Niobe and Ghost: two characters with fairly limited impact on The Matrix Reloaded. Most of the scenes filmed for the game only mirrored what was already happening in the film.
Great as a marketing tie-in, but not great besides offering fan service to Matrix diehards. The slow-mo combat, dubbed 'focus', was popular - Max Payne offered similar slow-mo combat - but the environments, level layouts and enemies were so generic, the game lacked any spark.
