10 NPCs That Broke Video Games
2. Mr. Briney - Pokemon Ruby And Sapphire
Breaking your game and having to reload it can be pretty annoying, but it's even worse when a bug forces you to restart everything entirely. This is a potential danger the player can face in the original Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire when dealing with Mr. Briney.
Mr. Briney is a retired sailor who helps the player travel between the mainland village of Petalburg and the isolated island town of Dewford. Early on, his boat is the only way to travel between these places, as the player doesn't have access to the Surf HM yet and cannot swim on their Pokemon.
However, you do have access to the Teleport move, and if you use it to teleport yourself to the Pokemon Center in Dewford Town after using Mr. Briney's services to travel to Petalburg, the old sailor will not be there to take you back to the mainland, keeping you trapped in Dewford.
What's worse is that if you unknowingly save your game after teleporting, your only choice at that point is to start a new game and make sure you don't repeat your mistakes.
Mr. Briney might be a helpful old man, but no one said he was reliable.
