10 Outstanding Current Gen Video Games You Wrongly Overlooked
5. Bayonetta 2
Bayonetta 1 and 2 are both extremely underrated titles, but no. 2 earns this spot thanks to tight, responsive controls, a crazy story that pits you against both Heaven and Hell, and over-the-top boss battles you'll have to see to believe. Everything is heightened and improved in the sequel, offering another campaign that embraces its cheesiness so that it can fully indulge in making everything in the game bigger, flashier, and uncompromisingly gratifying.
As is expected from developer Platinum Games, combat is an immediate standout. Bloody, combo-heavy, and varied enough to allow for all players to fight as they choose. Add in new weapons you receive over the course of the campaign and you've got a fighting system that keeps on giving, even after many hours of playing. That's without even mentioning the boss battles, each of which is a visually-stunning creation that offers a great challenge without reaching 'cheap' or 'impossible' territory.
Finally, there's Bayonetta, who is just such an enjoyable character to play as because of her ability to remain calm and revel in her accomplishments, even when both sides of the afterlife come seeking revenge against her.
A truly badass protagonist for an especially badass game.
