Don't Nod continues to prove themselves one of the most diverse, multi-capable dev teams working today, with the reveal of their new sci-fi cinematic action game Aphelion.
Aphelion takes place on the hostile frozen planet Persephone as crash-landed astronaut Ariane fights to rescue her wounded partner, Thomas.
Gameplay will consist primarily of exploration, traversal, and stealth gameplay, with players taking on not only the elements but also a mysterious alien enemy of some kind.
Despite its heightened story, which will reportedly include "shifted realities," the game has been produced in collaboration with the European Space Agency, which should ensure that the nuts and bolts of its more grounded scientific elements are rigorously authentic.
The reveal trailer did a superb job of showing off Aphelion's gorgeous visuals and the stark, desolate atmosphere of its focal planet, all while the particulars of its narrative remain firmly under wraps.
Given Don't Nod's aptitude for emotional storytelling (Life is Strange) and visceral traversal gameplay (Jusant), this should be a winning fusion of the two.
