10 Painfully Slow Openings That Nearly Ruined Great Video Games
3. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Not many are going to contest the fact that The Witcher 3 is one of the greatest games of all time. With its excellent writing, multi-layered characters, the densely packed and populated open world, and the rich story at the core, it's strange discover that many players did not finish the main game. In fact, there's a pocket of people who never made it beyond the starting area.
The story of tracking down Ciri only begins once the Witcher, Geralt, meets with the Emperor, but to get there, the player has to make it past the starting area of White Orchard where they are tasked with killing a griffin. While most would say this area was a good way of introducing the mechanics of the game and getting the player comfortable with the controls and quest types, a few found White Orchard to be just too... meh to get into.
True, White Orchard is not as beautiful as the islands of Skellige, nor the quests as engaging as the ones found in war-torn Velen, and the characters not as colourful as the population of Novigrad. As such, the opening to the Witcher 3 just proved too dull for a few players, and sadly, they never experienced the captivating open world the rest of the game had to offer.
