10 Painfully Slow Openings That Nearly Ruined Great Video Games
4. Gravity Rush 2
Gravity Rush was originally released as a flagship title for the PS Vita back in 2012 before receiving a PS4 remaster a few years later. It follows an amnesiac heroine, Kat, who discovers she can control gravity, thanks to a cat. Yeah, it's a bit weird but actually a whole heck of fun falling through each floating district. The only real problem came when the game finished, and it just left you wanting more.
And thankfully along came Gravity Rush 2.
But after being the super duper powered up, completely upgraded 'Gravity Queen' at the end of the previous game, the second gets off to a slog of a start. The opening sees Kat descending in a lift for what feels like hours, before strolling around rocks looking for things to mine.
Mission objective aside, the thing that really slows the pace of the opening is the fact that the player is unable to access the gravity manipulation powers! The game is fun, yes, but without the core mechanic of shifting gravity, it's honestly not that enjoyable. The game is not designed for the player to reach places on foot, so without Kat's powers the gameplay becomes stale, slow and frustrating, which results in a boring and restrictive opening half an hour.
