10 People Who Changed The Video Game Industry Forever

2. Shigeru Miyamoto

No one has given more to gamers in terms of quality, nostalgia, and iconic characters than the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto.

Miyamoto has created some of the most successful and critically acclaimed video game intellectual properties of all time, including The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, and everybody’s favourite plumber, Mario. It may seem a slightly simplistic reason to include him for being a really good game designer, but Miyamoto makes amazing games because of the philosophy that he works with, and it’s from this philosophy that he’s consistently produced masterpieces for over thirty years.

He focuses on the fun and joy that the player could experience, and their capacity to love what they’re doing. After the video game crash in the ‘80’s, Miyamoto stared into the face of adversity and gave the world Super Mario Brothers, and from that moment on, video games were never the same again. He’s given countless nostalgic memories to generations of children and hundreds of thousands of hours of magic to the world.

Without Miyamoto on their side, Nintendo and their tradesman mascot wouldn’t be the titan of the industry they are today, and the world would be a much sadder place.
