10 Perfect Video Games That Actually Lived Up To The Hype

There was a time when we LOVED video games. Not that it's completely gone from today's over-mediated, innovation-starved big-budget landscape, but back when the likes of the PS2 and Xbox were rolling out, every.single.new.thing was worth raving about. It all came together to produce a feeling where even the sky wasn't the limit. How good could graphics get? What other new genres would be invented? How would we control them, and how would we feel when doing it? All this and more was being experimented on across all echelons of the industry's economy, and although the indie scene was still in a fledgling state, lower production costs meant you got everything from mid-tier gems like Lost Odyssey, Darksiders and The Witcher 2, all the way up to the likes of GTA: San Andreas, Uncharted or the Halo trilogy. Nowadays, things are a little different. Yes, we still find joy in the stupidest of things, but due to the rise of social media and the interconnected nature by which we all share our opinions in abundance on everything from rumours and leaks to gameplay and demos, it can create one hell of a wave of hype that ultimately very few games then avoid being crushed by. However, there are some incredible titles out there both old and new, and as it's becoming the norm (as of writing in July 2015, any future readers) for games to release in increasingly broken or lacklustre states - how about we take stock of those legendary games that absolutely met or surpassed all expectations?
