"8.8 out of ten?!?! Do you even play games?!?!?"

The life of a critic is rarely fun. You scrape by from a rapidly decreasing number of people paying for your take on things, then the remorseless, multitudinous vermin of the internet decide that you haven't fellated their favourite thing hard enough.

They descend like locusts from on high, wishing death upon you for not validating the love, time and money they've wasted on whatever corporate branding scheme they've fallen for like the witless marks they are.

Why yes, I was a critic for years, what gave it away?

Seriously though, there is a discussion to be had about reducing the quality of a piece of art to a number. There is a discussion to be had about critiquing games you've played half of. These are discussions to be had with the industry as a whole, the writers are just doing a job. A really, really hard one, with non-existent job security.

Just as change within any industry comes from pressure to those at the top, the change in the gaming press will have to come from the same. Bullying writers will solve nothing.
