10 Promising Upcoming 2019 Video Games - Ranked By Anticipation
4. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare
Call Of Duty was always going to feature highly. Feel free to rip on the fact that it’s repetitive, lacks the identity of other shooters or is usually full of 12 year olds.
The fact is, more than any other game Call Of Duty is responsible for the boom in online console shooters. So many games try to copy its seemingly basic formula, but it has very few true rivals.
This year, they’re heading back to their roots a little, with a soft reboot of the Modern Warfare series. Despite the title, it’s not a remake of the original Modern Warfare, though it’s clearly trading on the goodwill on one of (if not the) most popular game they’ve ever put out.
Speaking of goodwill, their decision to ditch a season pass in favour of free updates and including cross platform play has also been a popular move. The name Call Of Duty will always attract criticism, but it attracts a helluva lot of moolah too.
With white phosphorus and the promise of ‘troubling, realistic emotional moments’, it’s already drawn comparisons with Modern Warfare 2’s No Russian and may yet surprise those expecting generic gaming junk food by serving up food for thought instead.
