10 Promising Upcoming 2019 Video Games - Ranked By Anticipation

5. The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds was announced to great aplomb at The Game Awards earlier this year, being the beneficiary of great timing. Right in the middle of Fallout 76’s disastrous launch, The Outer World’s trailer dropped, reminding everyone they developed the original Fallout, along with fan favourite Fallout: New Vegas.

It’s normal for game devs to laud their previous creations, especially when launching a new IP. Whether the timing was a deliberate twisting of the knife on Fallout 76 or just down to luck is anyone’s guess, but it certainly did The Outer Worlds no harm.

Since then, press coverage has cooled slightly. There’s still a lot of anticipation, but in the grand scheme of things, developers Obsidian are smaller than the publishers of their competitors, and so there’s been less marketing.

Whether it can be a true heavyweight of 2019 remains to be seen, but there’s a strong core fanbase who can’t wait to get their hands on it. As a first person RPG with dialogue decisions and options to act heroically, maniacally or moronically, there seems to be a huge Fallout influence too.

Think the original Fallouts in space and you’ve pretty much got the gist.
