10 Reasons Zelda: Skyward Sword Is WAY Better Than You Remember

3. The Best Link And Zelda Relationship

Link and Zelda's relationship has always been a tricky thing to get right. Due to Nintendo's insistence on Link never speaking and generally being a skin suit for the player to zip on like an otaku Buffalo Bill, it's hard to portray them as having any sort of chemistry when only one half of the romantic duo is putting in the work.

But in certain games, they manage to find ways of working within those boundaries and pulling it off. Some of them DON'T have them get together like Twilight Princess or Wind Waker (c'mon guys they're little kids in that one) but Skyward Sword does something far more clever.

For one, the multiple choice answers lets you get a feel for Link's personality, especially since there aren't many of them so not a lot of chances for contradiction like with what can happen in Bioware games. And Zelda is always given complete agency over her actions. Hell, the end credits of the game show the story from Zelda's point of view, and the adventure SHE had while you were off on yours.

This, combined with her sweet but sassy personality makes for a pair that you want to see come out okay and a Zelda that you want to save. Not because she's a damsel in distress plot device, but because you share in Link's fear and love for her, and want to rip Ghirahim's arms off, shove them up his ass and down his throat, and make them shake hands in the middle whenever he talks about harming her.
