10 Recent Video Game Villain Deaths That Made Us Cry

JRPGs are the undisputed masters at making you feel sorry for running a broadsword through the chest of a bad guy. And one of the most famous examples of this in recent memory comes from Persona 5, and fan favorite character Goro Akechi.

Goro Akechi hated his father. And to be fair, his father made hating him the easiest thing in the world, leaving his mother to raise Goro all by herself. And since Japanese society is famously uh, "tough" on single parents, the stress led to his mom having an emotional breakdown.

Akechi then dedicated his life to ruining the man who cursed him with such a wretched existence. Even going so far as to allow himself to become his dad's personal metaverse assassin, just to get into the most advantageous position possible.

All of which was for nothing, of course. Shido pegged him as his bastard son the moment he walked into his office, and has been planning on cutting him loose from the start. And after a boss fight with Akechi, that's exactly what happens, Akechi being murdered by his father's perception copy of him just to add insult to injury.

The most solace Akechi gets in the end is that Joker never once gave up on the chance that he could be a better man.
