5. Featuring A Racist Cartoon - Atomic Heart

FPS Atomic Heart ruffled some feathers mere days after release when players discovered some questionable content inside one of the game's safe rooms.

Each of these rooms contain televisions featuring clips from a real Soviet-era propaganda animated series called Nu, Pogodli!, and in one of said rooms, a clip showed a blatantly racist caricature of an African tribesman firing an arrow.

Social media was certainly divided on the issue, some feeling that developers Mundfish made a mistake by including such insensitive imagery free of context, while others felt that it was nevertheless thematically appropriate given that the series takes place in an alt-history version of the Soviet Union.

All the same, the backlash was vocal enough that Mundfish ultimately apologised for the offending clip, which they promptly edited to remove any and all glimpse of the caricature in question.

And naturally, for everyone satisfied with Mundfish's response, there were the usual suspects decrying them for caving to pressure and "self-censoring."
