10 Recent Video Games We Were Way Too Harsh On
3. Star Wars Outlaws
There was a time when the announcement of a new Star Wars game would be a cause of celebration. But cynicism was high when Ubisoft plugged Star Wars Outlaws, especially after their previous Star Wars project, Battlefront II, was marred in controversy.
At first, it seems like this pessimism was just, as Outlaws was less than stellar and failed to meet sales expectations. The game was let down by braindead AI, buggy gameplay and rigid stealth mechanics. With Ubisoft's inconsistent track record in recent years, this news shouldn't have been a surprise.
Even though Outlaws was disappointing, a lot of people didn't give it a chance. After what happened with Battlefront II, many assumed the Star Wars project would have heavy micro-transactions, live-service elements, and a permanent online requirement, none of which were true.
Others complained how Outlaws didn't focus on the Force or lightsabers, nor let you play as established Star Wars characters. As such, it feels like a lot of the gaming community were hoping Outlaws would fail regardless of its quality.
Also, the first-month patch made many improvements, including NPC positioning, flexible stealth sequences, better camera positioning, optimised performance, and AI detection, with the speederbike sections now being more fun.
There are still a few quibbles, but Outlaws is not the disaster it has been made out to be.
