4. Tunic
Published by Finji, Tunic is an action-adventure title that took oodles of inspiration from the classic Legend of Zelda series. Despite serving as a love letter to the iconic Nintendo franchise, some perceived Tunic as a flagrant knock-off.
Obviously, this argument is unfair since they're plenty of rip-offs that are amazing, including Crash Team Racing, Forza, and dozens of Metroidvanias.
But there's another reason why this common complaint doesn't sit right. Yes, Tunic's style and aesthetic are undeniably modelled on LoZ. However, the gameplay is more akin to a Soulslike. Though the Zelda franchise gives you a lot of pointers, Tunic expects you to figure out everything yourself. (That cryptic guidebook really doesn't help.) And due to the unforgiving difficulty, Tunic feels like an isometric version of Dark Souls.
So, since Tunic doesn't play like The Legend of Zelda, that should quash that issue, right?
Sadly not, since they're players who were ticked off with the gameplay because it didn't play like the Zelda franchise. Basically, there's a very vocal group who hate Tunic because it's too similar or too different to The Legend of Zelda.
Sometimes, you just can't win.
