Zombies are zombies are zombies for the most part, but Dead Rising dares to make them fun, too. Films like Shaun of the Dead and Resident Evil had come around and sparked off the obsession with zombie media in gloriously spoofy fashion in the early 2000s, so this game went one step further and took George A. Romero's blueprint laid out in his Living Dead series and lovingly hammed it up for our own entertainment.
Trapped in a shopping mall - oh hello, Dawn of the Dead - one photojournalist Frank West must face the hordes and look mighty fine whilst doing so, with a range of weapons from water pistols to bowling balls and outfits from dresses to servbot masks to help him in this important mission.
Of course, there's a whole thing about getting pictures of the whole event and showing the world this zombie invasion, but that comes second to just having big stupid fun for 72 hours until you can escape.
