10 RPG Character Deaths That BROKE You

It was stated in the introduction that this list would avoid the inevitable Aerith entry. But let's be honest, the Final Fantasy series is hardly starved for emotional character deaths. There are plenty of other names that could appear here, spanning across the 16 mainline games and the spin-offs, including Zack Fair, Noctis, Tidus (kind of), and more. Still, it feels right to give it to the devastating loss of Cid Del Norte Marguez from Final Fantasy VI. 

Cid is a fatherly figure to the player character Celes, and is a figure wracked with guilt over the mistakes he has made when creating Magitek. Ultimately, his efforts to improve the world are futile as the dastardly villain Kafka obliterates the Earth, leaving him, Celes, and other survivors stranded on a desert island. 

From there, you, as Celes, have to feed Cid fish after he falls ill, with failure to do so promptly resulting in his death. It's a major blow, especially with what comes after, as Celes, having now become entirely alone due to the loss of the other survivors as well, attempts to take her own life in despair.
