10 Scariest Video Game Moments Nobody Saw Coming

7. Thief's Moira Asylum

Thief Moira Asylum
Eidos

Thief is a series that has always dabbled in the idea of horror, but Eidos never really went the full way with it. No, Thief games are more about sneaking around in the shadows stealing things and outsmarting (occasionally dumb) AI. Forget all of that when it comes to Moira Asylum in the 2014 reboot. It's best just to run.

After hours of taking your time and painstakingly ensuring Garrett gobbles up all that precious loot that just so happens to be laying around, the Asylum level removes power from your arsenal and smacks players around the face with a bevy of jump scares. It can feel a little removed from the rest of the title, granted, but that's the point.

This is Eidos saying, 'hey, you thought you had this game figured out by now, didn't you?'. At once, it feels like a digital rug has just been pulled from beneath your feet. The foreboding Moira Asylum is packed full of freaks, apparitions and the dreaded Night Warden.
