10 Scariest Villains Of The Decade (So Far)

This list has seen some exceptionally twisted monster designs, but sometimes, a simple villain can strike just as hard. A perfect example of this is Cynthia Weaver, a tragic character found in Alan Wake 2. 

Cynthia is the main antagonist of the "Old Gods" chapter in the Valhalla Nursing Home. She's an older woman who has become a Taken, turning her into a dangerous force. Her physical design is creepy, thanks to her dead eyes, but outside of that, she's simply an older lady possessed by an evil entity.

However, the thing that truly makes her a nightmare is her jump scares. She often bursts onto the screen screaming at you. This makes Cynthia feel like an inescapable presence who could appear any time, leaving the atmosphere soaking with dread.  

There is also a horrifying layer of heartbreak to this villain, thanks to the role Cynthia played in the original Alan Wake. She acted as a supporting character in the game, helping the player significantly. As such, seeing her like this is a healthy mix of scary and saddening.
