6. Hired Thugs - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Skyrim is about as open world as open-world games can get. You’re free to go and explore everywhere and do everything your heart desires, including some really messed up things (unless we’re talking about killing annoying kids, of course).
Most of the time, you can steal anything and kill anyone without any consequences, so long as you don’t get caught by the law.
However, it turns out your awful actions do have consequences, even when no one is around to see them.
The first time you do something mean or harmful to another inhabitant of Skyrim, there is a chance that the victim of your crime will sic a group of hired thugs after you.
This secret encounter will usually wait for you near entrances to cities and villages, clad in steel armor and bearing enchanted weapons. They don’t give you much of a warning when they attack you, lunging at you as soon as they say they have a “message” for you.
Because of this, the thugs can easily kill you on higher difficulty settings, making you wish you didn’t anger that one random NPC.
