10 Secret Video Game Companions You Recruit Under The Most Bizarre Circumstances
8. Tharja - Fire Emblem Awakening
In Fire Emblem Awakening, your character has to build an entire warband of loyal companions and then ship them together like a warmongering cupid.
Typically, the companions you recruit willingly join you in their designated quests, but there are also a couple of companions that have more bizarre requirements for recruitment.
One such follower is Tharja.
The Plegian dark mage appears in one of the final missions of the first act as an enemy on the battlefield. Aside from her distinct design and a small line of dialogue hinting that she may be reluctant to fight, there isn't really anything indicating that she is a potential recruit for your army.
If you don't pay attention, it's easy to treat Tharja as just another mob to kill, but if you pick up on her uniqueness, you can choose to move up to her with your party leader, Chrom, and then initiate a secret dialogue, in which she turns on her own people!
Afterward, if Tharja makes it through the level alive, she will permanently join your team and act really creepily around your custom character, as she's not-so-secretly smitten by their mysterious dark aura.
Aw, isn't she a joy?
