This secretly powerful fellow comes from the non-Hyrule-based Link's Awakening, which sees the titular hero stranded on Koholint Island. Within this land, in a village called Mabe, sits a local Town Tool Shop with an owner you do not want to steal from.
Those with sneaky fingers and a desire to keep their rupee pouch full can take items from this shop without paying. However, while stealing from your local Tesco might get you a slap on the wrist in the real world, you'll receive a far harsher punishment here, as the Shopkeeper strikes you an impossibly powerful attack.
This humble retailer has the ability to zap you with a lightning strike that instantly kills you upon reentry to his shop. Adding to the mystery of this character's insane power is that it's never explained. The only thing you learn about him is that it's not worth trying to swipe any of his wares.
This can happen in both the original 1993 Game Boy title and 2019's Switch remake, so you won't feel safe pinching his stuff in either.
