3. Maneaters (Demon’s Souls)

The Maneaters of the Tower of Latria can be one of the hardest bosses in Demon’s Souls. You begin the encounter fighting only one, but after just over a minute, a second joins the fray. They boast a variety of fist and tail attacks and the first one frequently flies off to stall for time, and before you know it, you’re fighting two of the big buggers at full health on a tiny walkway.

There’s a reason why we mentioned back in the Astraea entry that the humble bow is the best weapon in this game.

Before you go through the fog wall into the awful claustrophobic fight, position yourself right up against the gate and peer through the fog, aiming with your bow. You can actually shoot through the fog wall here and slowly whittle down the first Maneater’s health, and eventually kill it entirely, meaning that you only have one to worry about, making the whole fight infinitely simpler.

The whole process takes a long time, and requires a pretty well-upgraded bow, but quite often you’ll find the best cheeses are the most mature.
