10 Star Trek Holodeck Programs We Want To Experience

4. The Adventures of Captain Proton

Considering how many holodeck accidents occurred, it's a little baffling that ships would still be allowed to utilise the technology. However, if any ship was in desperate need of some escapism, it was Voyager.

Seven of Nine had the temerity to call Captain Proton an infantile scenario, but we think it looks like great fun. Imagine walking into a holodeck with a friend and seeing them in that atmospheric black-and-white filter; it would be stunning.

Captain Proton embraces the full retro sci-fi, B-movie experience, complete with reused sets, audacious costumes and dodgy props. There's something so comforting about that vintage sci-fi era. You could lose yourself in a swashbuckling holo-adventure without ever worrying about things getting too scary. The maniacal monsters are only ever as fast as their cumbersome costumes allow, and virtually every problem can be solved with a trusty ray gun and dashing quip.

Apart from Bride of Chaotica!, which resulted in a near-fatal misunderstanding with photonic lifeforms. We'd like to avoid that particular complication and stick to the deliciously cheesy script. Cosplaying as Captain Proton would be a blast...minus the shrill screams, slave girls and Dungeon of Pain. And of course, we'd absolutely pay extra for the 'Janeway as Arachnia, Queen of the Spider People' DLC.
