10 Star Trek Holodeck Programs We Want To Experience

5. The Adventures of Flotter

In Once Upon a Time, we are introduced to the enchanting Forest of Forever and the water sprite, Flotter. And what a dream it would be for children to step into a world of fairy tales and play a part in the stories they love.

Among fans, however, the Flotter holoprogram can be a little divisive. Some people see it as a beautiful, magical land with charming characters, while others see utter nightmare fuel. But surely that just means it has universal appeal. Depending on which side of the argument you fall, you could take a trip to the Forest of Forever to unleash your inner child, or test your nerve in a veritable horrorscape.

Either way, it seems that at least some of the Flotter stories revolve around putting differences aside, making friends and problem-solving. That sounds like a pretty nice place to be, all things considered. However, it does raise the question of whether The Adventures of Flotter was a subtle Starfleet indoctrination initiative to get kids ready for the final frontier.

Still, it served as a place of solace for Naomi Wildman when she was going through tough times, the kind of place we could all use now and then. And it does seem like it would be fun to meet the colourful elements of the forest. We'll pass on the tie-in merch though...that terrifying Flotter doll Neelix gives to Naomi is definitely haunted.
