10 Star Trek Holodeck Programs We Want To Experience

3. Julian Bashir, Secret Agent

The name's Bashir. Julian Bashir. And Our Man Bashir offers a fascinating glimpse into the fantasies of the doctor (perhaps too much of a glimpse if we're honest).

This 1960s spy adventure, not at all based on any particular shaken and not stirred franchise, promises an escapade of epic proportions. It has everything you could possibly ask for; henchmen with eyepatches, extravagant casinos, evil masterplans that involve lasers and lava, femme fatales and homme fatals (we never knew just how much we needed Worf wearing a white dinner jacket in our lives). The villain is even called Dr. Noah. It never gets old.

Even if we gave our version a slight update for 21st-century sensibilities, there would still be a world of fun to be had in this holoprogram. Who wouldn't want the chance to become a suave secret agent and star in their very own espionage thriller? All the best spy capers are packed with gadgets, action and outlandish plots, and this one delivers on all fronts.

Can we still request Elim Garak as our sidekick, though? Please? His continuous commentary on real spycraft, Cardassian style, would be the icing on the cake. There is no one else we would rather share this adventure with.

Katherine has been boldly going since childhood, when the BBC Two 6pm Star Trek slot changed her life. She was drawn in by the franchise's optimism, compassion and flair for character-driven storytelling. She's been writing stories since she could pick up a pen and has spent far too much time immersed in television, films, books, music and theatre. She loves any chance to talk or write about her favourite fandoms, of which there are many. When not busy writing, she can usually be found playing video games or explaining why the concept of a transporter is actually terrifying.
