3. No Russian In Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's campaign was thrilling from start to finish, but there was one mission that was terrible and poorly handled throughout.

It was called No Russian and rather than playing as an allied soldier, the player controlled a Russian villain who attacked an airport, gunning down countless innocent civilians.

It's hardly like the mission was romanticised, in fact nothing was. It wasn't designed to be glorious, it was the polar opposite. Its intent was to strike a chord in the player and make them reflect on what was going on and yet it still felt tasteless.

But there wasn't a real need for them to actively assume this role other than to force them to empathise with the 'good guys' and realise what exactly it is they are fighting for.

Despite plenty of warning being given and the option to disable the mission altogether, the following question stands out above all the rest: what was the need?

No Russian will forever be etched in history as one of the most bizarre design choices to actually make it into a video game.
