10 Terrible Moments From The Best Video Games
4. Niflheim In God Of War
The rebooted God of War game was fantastic. The decision to move away from its traditional Ancient Greek roots paved the way for a new kind of narrative - one between father and son.
The introduction of Artreus served as a tether between Kratos' old life and his new one, all the while establishing new lore and essential plot points that allowed for a whole host of future entries.
For the most part, its exploration of Nordic culture is excellent and the ability to traverse between realms was as enticing as it was fresh. Yet, one realm in particular was terrible.
You guessed it. Niflheim. It sucked.
Considering how much focus had been directed toward attention to detail and creating a scenic experience, this was an aspect the realm lacked entirely. It was filled with endless hordes of enemies to unceremoniously slay that felt in more in tune with the older God of War philosophy than the new, mature one.
Granted, if the player fancied a challenge on the hardest difficulty this was one section to not miss. But, it was devoid of any real narrative purpose and it felt empty. Without a doubt, Niflheim was a low point for God of War.
