Magikarp is Pokémon's card-carrying joke character - a slack-mawed, pathetically weak pokémon who in addition to being slow as all hell is unable to deal any damage with its infamous Splash "attack."

But as much of a conventionally awful time-waster as Magikarp might be, it's still tough to outright hate given that the games aren't forcing it upon you nor are they presenting it as anything more than what it is - a gag.

If you're able to slog it out and get the thing to level 20, it evolves into the decidedly more powerful - and yes, useful - Gyarados, but for many the juice simply won't be worth the squeeze.

Hell, even the official Pokémon YouTube page has an hilarious song dedicated to Magikarp's thorough, weirdly endearing lameness:
