10 Things Capcom Wants You To Forget About Resident Evil

2. Resident Evil 6 Ruined Classic Resi Characters

As aforementioned in earlier entries, Resident Evil 6 leaned heavily on action over scares. The older games perhaps have a excuse for not having excellent voice acting or writing, but the 6th iteration does not. Resi 6 was released in 2012, long after games had started to get their house in order when it came to presentation. Even so, not much had changed. Long-standing characters such as Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Ada Wong and Sherry Birkin made returns. Unfortunately for Capcom, the way they wrote dialogue for these people made them less engaging than ever before. Way back in Resident Evil 2, Leon just seemed like a policeman who wanted to get on with his new gig. It was easy to sympathise with the fact everything had went wrong so quickly in his new career. Fast-forward to Resident Evil 6, and there's nothing for people to empathise with at all. Leon is arguably less-exciting in 6, even though he should be a well-rounded, familiar face older fans of the franchise can relate to. Resident Evil 6 did a remarkable job of making long time characters seem like wasted opportunities. Similarly to Kennedy, Chris Redfield just feels like a cut and paste action hero.
