7. The Calming Welcome Of The Start Up Orchestra
The start up sound of a console may sound like a rather trivial element of a system to judge, being as many people probably haven't even got their TV on in time to hear whatever sound their console makes, but it should never be ignored. The PlayStation series of consoles have had an interesting evolution of start up sounds over the years, and the fourth console may just have the most calming yet.
The PS1's start up sound was mystic and evoked a feeling of awe, whereas the PS2's was loud and harsh on the ears. The PS3 opted for a nice orchestral piece that really made it feel like the console was waking up. Rather than re-invent the wheel, the PS4 decided to simply evolve what was on the PS3.
The PS4 start up is simple and calming, perfectly greeting you as you take a seat ready to play whatever game you want. Granted it may not be as exciting as the PS1's, but it certainly feels an apt choice for the console and is instantly recognisable from its first few notes.
