10 Things That Killed Mortal Kombat 1
1. A Botched Launch
After reading all the previous entries, you've likely arrived at this conclusion too.
The sad truth of it all is that Mortal Kombat 1 was not ready for release when Warner Bros. pushed it out of the door.
Ultimately, it was set-up to fail by launching in a state that nobody could say was truly complete. It had missing features, suffered balance issues and and displayed an overall lack of polish that left a sour taste in many players' mouths.
The lack of content available at launch meant that many players sought out other games after finishing the highly divisive story mode and maybe dipping their toes into the Invasions mode.
The launch roster of characters and Kameos also didn't help matters, with several combinations of characters being particularly toxic and the now-praised versaility and player expression was many, many months away from being at the front and center.
Mortal Kombat 1 would eventually go on to win over some of the audience that initially turned their back on it but the perfect storm of all the previously mentioned issues means that the game will never reach the full potential that was envisioned by the fine folks at NetherRealm Studios.
Oh well, let's hope they learn from their mistakes for Injustice 3.
