10 Things That Killed Mortal Kombat 1

8. Overpriced DLC

Much like its predecessor Mortal Kombat 11, Mortal Kombat 1 got a story expansion via DLC.

Aptly titled Khaos Reigns, this next chapter in the multiverse soup that was Mortal Kombat 1's story saw a titan version of Havik waging war on Liu Kang and his band of merry warriors, bringing back fan-favourite characters Cyrax, Sektor and Noob Saibot - as well as three new guest characters in the form of Ghostface, Conan the Barbarian and the T-1000 Terminator.

Six new characters and an additional couple of hours story is a fairly generous offering, but fans were instantly dismayed when they saw the price-tag: A whopping £39.99 here in the UK.

No matter which way you slice it, that's an insanely high price for what you get, and many fans decided to vote with their wallets by not buying Khaos Reigns, leading to fairly abysmal sales. And whilst it's never been officially confirmed by either NetherRealm Studios or Warner Bros., its been heavily rumoured that the poor sales of Khaos Reigns are what lead to the plug being pulled on future content.

Had the price not been so eye-watering to begin with, maybe we'd now be looking forward to the return of characters like Cassie Cage and Jade.
