10 Thought-Provoking Video Games That Haunted You For Days

8. Fallout 3

Bethesda's re-imagining of the Fallout series might not have gone down well with everybody but it drew an unbelievable amount of new fans into the series, giving them a first taste of moral drama in a post-apocalyptic universe. Despite having little experience in a post-apocalyptic environment (well, we hope so, at least), Fallout 3 is able to draw the player in by creating scenarios not too outlandishly dissimilar from those you might find in a real end of world scenario; for example, having to resolve arguments or help struggling communities to survive. Of course, there's also plenty of outlandish scenarios to balance this. The most infamous of these involved Allistair Tenpenny and his selfish desire to create an idealised world within the Capitol Wasteland. Near to Tenpenny Tower is the town of Megaton (so named as it's built around a nuclear warhead); a giant mound of steel that Tenpenny regards as an eyesore on the landscape. Naturally, he tasks you with blowing up the nuke and wiping out Megaton so he can look out from his tower and not have his view of the beautiful grey landscape ruined. As with most quests in Fallout, you then have to make a decision for your character; kill innocent people to live a life of post-apocalyptic luxury or disarm the bomb and prevent further threats to Megaton? It's a game that requires a lot of thought and the consequences aren't always apparent; you can come to regret some of your choices within the Capitol Wasteland.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
