10 Thought-Provoking Video Games That Haunted You For Days
5. Dark Souls
It might come as a shock but Dark Souls is an incredibly dark game outside of its lighting engine. The world of Lordran is not a happy place, and much of your journey will be spent surrounded by various horrors and miseries. Still, it's one of the most rewarding games around for a reason; among the constant death and despair, there are glimmers of hope that keep you enthralled throughout, such as the cast of mysterious characters you'll encounter along the way. Dark Souls is surprisingly thought-provoking too, particularly when it comes to the side stories. Take Solaire for example, a Knight who has come to Lordran to 'find his Sun'. Tragically, the horrors of Lordran weigh upon his mind and as you progress through the game, Solaire's eccentric personality slowly decays as he falls into despair. It's a story that's as thought-provoking as it is grievous; how can you possibly survive a place that is able to corrupt and destroy a strong, proud Knight? Furthermore, the lore of Dark Souls is under constant debate and rewrite. As much of it is garnered from item descriptions and assumption, there is a lot to be gained from careful reading and a delicate thought process. Is there truly a good ending to the game? Are certain characters all they seem to be? The twists and turns of Dark Souls are unlike anything seen before in gaming.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
