10 Thought-Provoking Video Games That Haunted You For Days

4. Red Dead Redemption

Underneath all the controversy, Rockstar are able to make some incredibly moving games. This is demonstrated superbly with Red Dead Redemption, a game initially written off as 'Grand Theft Auto with horses'; whisper it but it might have been better than any of Rockstar's premier series. It's a massively cinematic experience with a phenomenal lead character who acts as the emotional core of the whole story; John Marston is definitely one of Rockstar's greatest creations. Having left his gang lifestyle behind, Marston is forced to hunt down his old associates by the U.S Government who hold his wife and son hostage until the task is complete. It's also a tale of redemption (surprisingly) for Marston as he seeks to put a close to his old criminal lifestyle and rectify some of the mistakes he made. All John wants to do is forge a peaceful life for his family and his tale, along with the shady characters he meets along the way, is highly memorable. Having eliminated Dutch van der Linde, Marston is allowed to return to his ranch and is reunited with his family. Here, the game seems to reach an ending as the final missions see Marston teaching his son Jack the skills and lessons needed to run a ranch. Unfortunately, Rockstar weren't going to end on a perfect, happy ending. As warned by Dutch, the U.S Government found "a new monster to justify their pay" and Marston is hunted down and killed in his own ranch in one final sacrifice to save his family. It's a heartbreaking ending to the game and it's one that will keep you awake at night as you question whether Marston fully deserved to be mistreated to such extreme levels.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
