10 Times Creators Sneakily Inserted Themselves Into Video Games
2. Gabe Newell Room - Half-Life
Gabe Newell, the president of Valve, is a beloved figure in the gaming community. He is the subject of many memes and good-natured jokes within Valve's fanbase, but it seems even the developers inside his own company like to poke fun at the legendary lord Gaben from time to time.
In Half-Life, there is a secret out-of-bounds room that the player can access only through cheats. From afar, it looks like some kind of scary isolation chamber. However, once the player warps themselves inside, they will discover that the walls, ceiling, and even the floor of the room are entirely comprised of low-resolution images of Gabe Newell's face.
The cameo is so perfectly hidden inside the "Unforeseen Consequences" level that even with cheating, it might take someone a while before they even spot it. On the other hand, to a true Gaben fan, no effort is too great when it comes to meeting face-to-face (or face-to-faces) with the god of Steam himself.
