10 Times Creators Sneakily Inserted Themselves Into Video Games
1. Hideo Kojima - Metal Gear Solid (Various)
The history of Hideo Kojima's appearances in his own games is so long and complicated that it only makes sense that he would appear on this list. Although you could hardly call his cameos "secret" or "sneaky" nowadays, they weren't always so bombastic.
Before Kojima was running through war zones and speaking with his own characters, his cameos were minor easter eggs the player could stumble upon if they were curious enough.
In Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2, Kojima would appear as a ghost in pictures taken in specific locations. These static and heavily filtered photos would then evolve into an in-person appearance in Peace Walker, where Kojima would be shown and name-dropped in a cutscene, and was even available as a recruit for Mother Base.
From that point on, the director would only become more daring and obvious with his cameos, to the point where in Ground Zeroes, he actually plays a pivotal role in a mission. The player has to protect him as he escapes from a black site, and on getting to safety, he'll make a comment based on the player's performance.
Find yourself someone who loves you as much as Hideo Kojima loves Hideo Kojima.
